Daniel Hale Williams 1858-1931 |
Employed at many prominent hospitals throughout his amazing medical career, Williams also co-founded the National Medical Association (NMA) the oldest and largest organization which represents African American physicians as well their patients. The next time you go to the doctor's office, and you think "Man, I hope I don't get a black doctor", just remember that we have been a constant variable in the medical field for quite sometime-there is no need to worry, you're in good hands.
Not only have have African-Americans been a staple in the various medical fields, we have been instrumental in the furthering of medical knowledge--allowing the the advancement of the practice as a whole.Daniel Hale Williams is a shining example of the importance of African-Americans in society-and a reason why black history should be a year 'round event.
